வணக்கம்,
நாம் வளர்ந்த காலத்து உணவை அடிக்கடி நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன். அதன் தரமும், நாம் சாப்பிடும் விதமும் நம் கண் முன்னாலேயே மாறிவிட்டன.
என் கணவர் 2005 முதல் வணிகக் கப்பல்களில் பணிபுரிகிறார். இந்தோனேசியா, மலேசியாவிலிருந்து பாமாயிலும், அர்ஜென்டினாவிலிருந்து சூரியகாந்தி எண்ணெயும் பிற தாவர எண்ணெய்களும் கப்பல் கப்பலாக இந்தியாவுக்கு வருவதைப் பற்றி அவர் சொன்னபோது, அந்த அளவை என்னால் நம்பவே முடியவில்லை. எண்ணெய் மட்டுமல்ல; உணவில் கலப்படம் எவ்வளவு பரவலாகிவிட்டது என்பதையும் நாங்கள் பேசினோம்.
அன்று முதல், சமையலறையில் எண்ணெய் ஊற்றும் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் என் மனதில் ஒரே கேள்வி:
இது உண்மையில் என்ன?
அந்த எண்ணெயில் சமைத்த உணவுதான் நம் குழந்தைகளின் தட்டுக்குப் போகிறது. அவர்களின் ஊட்டச்சத்தும் ஆரோக்கியமும் அந்தத் தட்டில்தான் தொடங்குகின்றன. அவர்கள்தான் நம் நாட்டின் எதிர்காலம். நம் பெரியவர்கள் நமக்குத் தந்ததை விடக் குறைவானதை நம் குழந்தைகளுக்குத் தர நான் விரும்பவில்லை.
நம் பாட்டிகள் காலத்தில், எண்ணெய் எங்கிருந்து வந்தது, யார் ஆட்டினார்கள் என்று எல்லோருக்கும் தெரியும். அந்த நம்பிக்கை எங்கோ தொலைந்துவிட்டது. அதை மீண்டும் கொண்டுவர, என் குடும்பத்தின் பெரியவர்களையும் குழந்தைகளையும் மனதில் வைத்து, யோசித்து எடுத்த முடிவுதான் நெய்தல் முத்து.
தூத்துக்குடியில் உள்ள எங்கள் சொந்த ஆலையில் எண்ணெய் எடுக்கிறோம். ஒவ்வொரு தொகுதியையும் NABL அங்கீகாரம் பெற்ற ஆய்வகத்தில் சோதித்து, அதன் முடிவுகளை உங்களிடம் பகிர்கிறோம். நாங்கள் சொல்வதை மட்டும் நம்ப வேண்டாம்; சோதனை முடிவுகளைப் பாருங்கள்.
என் குடும்பத்துக்குத் தரும் அதே எண்ணெயைத்தான் உங்கள் குடும்பத்துக்கும் தருகிறேன்.

Vanakkam,
I often think about the food we grew up with. We have watched its quality, and the way we eat, change in front of our eyes.
My husband has worked on merchant ships since 2005. When he told me how palm oil from Indonesia and Malaysia, and sunflower and other vegetable oils from Argentina, arrive in India shipload after shipload, I could hardly believe the scale of it. And it isn't only oil. We talked about how widespread adulteration in food has become.
Since then, every time I pour oil in my kitchen, one question stays with me:
What is this, really?
The food cooked in that oil goes onto our children's plates. Their nutrition and health begin on that plate, and they are our nation's future. I don't want to give our children less than our elders gave us.
In our grandmothers' time, everyone knew where their oil came from and who pressed it. Somewhere along the way, that trust was lost. Neythal Pearl is a decision I made carefully, with the elders and children of my family in mind, to bring it back.
We press the oil at our own unit in Thoothukudi. Every batch is tested at an NABL-accredited lab, and we share the results with you. Don't just take our word for it; look at the test results.
The oil I give my family is the same oil I give yours.
